The Haqqani Foundation
Building bridges across faiths and communities
In an age where we face a clash between Islamic and Western traditions almost daily, the Haqqani Foundation distinguishes itself in raising awareness of the moderate voice of Islam. For us an "Islamic extremist" or worse, an "Islamic terrorist" are oxymorons. Our mandate focuses on participating in interfaith dialogues, educating the public at large and being available for media outlets to present the many nuanced principals of Islam thus creating connections from heart to heart. For more than 20 years, the Foundation has participated in building bridges between traditional Islam and Quebec's western culture featuring a voice of calm and reason which permeates everything we do. The true message of Islam is a hidden pearl in the west and yours to discover. Our dedication to religious dialogue with other faiths and non-religious groups aims to build greater appreciation and awareness of traditional Islam.
About the Haqqani Foundation's Activities
Bringing the Community Together
The Haqqani Foundation, a registered charity with the Federal government since 2003, provides a central meeting place for community members interested in spirituality. Our doors are open for everyone to join in music, mediation, spiritual activities, to share a meal and socialize. If you'd like to come and find out more about our community, please feel free to attend on either a Thursday or Saturday evening at 8:00 pm. It will be an evening unlike any other you have experienced. Visitors are often impressed by the warmth and graciousness with which they are received. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting. Members are happy to answer questions and share their love and passion for their Creator and His beloved prophet. Visitors are free to come and go as they please.
There is no fee to attend these evening events which include prayer, meditation, music, chanting, whirling dervishes, and more. Food and drinks are served making it a complete evening event often lasting until 10:00 or 11:00 pm. We rely on donations to support our ongoing activities. Please give generously. Go to our donation page to find out how.
Our Social Work
Located in heart of Montreal in one of the most diverse neighborhoods, we serve the community by providing social services, community support networks, spiritual development, interfaith and multicultural events. Meals are also provided regularly to community members in need. No fees are charged for councelling, mediation or outreach services.
We need you to support these ongoing services to the community. Please give generously.
An Educational Centre & Resource Bank
The Haqqani Foundation serves as a resource bank for Montreal. Its members are regularly invited to deliver presentations on Islam in universities, secondary schools, primary schools, community centres and government organizations such as the mayor's office and the police department. Students young and old also come to our centre frequently to learn about Islam and get an authentic experience in our place of worship. It helps provide a context for them to see and feel how Muslims integrate religion into their daily lives.
Muslims uphold the basic tenants common to all monotheistic religions including Judaism and Christianity. Jews and Christians are known to Muslims as "People of the Book" acknowledging each of their holy scriptures as important. These three major religions each uphold the same basic moral values including peace, love, brotherhood, showing respect and kindness towards all people, especially those in need.
The Foundation is also an educational centre where students and faculty members from major universities such as McGill, Concordia and Université de Montréal conduct research, observe, film, interview members and participate in events.
We do not charge for these activities, but depend on your support to make them happen.
Please give generously so we can continue to do this vital work in the community. Thank you and God bless.
